i just got my 4.10 medium case lsd from an 89 m3 with 72k. when i do the swap i am going to replace the axle boots. i was wondering what you guys would recommend for axle shaft grease and also what would be the best diff fluid for the most lockup i can get with the stock 25%? any suggestions would be great.

i just did mine a few months ago. the axle boots i got from bav auto grease packs were incld. i have always used red line for diff and trans. also check the mount bushing.now is a good time to have a new one pressed in.

Fluid doesn't affect the lock-up percentage, only the condition of the clutch plates themselves and how much they are designed for.

Bimmerworld sells LSD rebuild clutch plates that let you choose what percentage lock-up you want.

i know that the amount of clutches and the material make up the lock up% but i have heard that if you run thicker gear oil it will slightly improve lock up i do not know if this is right but i figured you guys would. also on the topic of rebuilding the diff has anyone just used stock clutches and instead of using all of the steels replaced a couple of the steels with the old clutches to improve the lock up%. i know this is done on some GM rearends but i have not heard about anyone doing this on the bmw's. any opinions?
