exhaust will it work?
« on: March 26, 2007, 04:33:49 PM »
has anyone tried to seperate there exhaust at the y pipe and run two pipes with two mufflers and no converters? i was wondering what this would sound like considering an e30 m3 runs theres this way. i have been trying to find mufflers that would work and not be to loud, i thought about a muffler for a 325 but i am pretty sure that it connects them inside the muffler. my exhaust is leaking and my converter is clogging up and i am trying to do something different and not so fart can sounding. any help would be help
thanks, jason

I had thought about doing something similar and using a set of sport bike slip-ons. Run sraight pipes all the way back with a slip-on  on each side. Not cheap, but the sound would be pretty good I think.

thats what i was thinking about but i figured that straight pipes to slip ons would be very loud i was thinking about using two resonators on each pipe but i still dont know if it would be too loud as well ( four resonators would be cheaper than two slip-ons). i want to do something different :D

Glasspacks, you can get them for about $20 a piece from http://summitracing.com/

My FJR factory mufflers are very quiet. The thing you have to worry about with aftermarket slip ons is making sure you get the exhaust tips past the back end of the car so the sound is "outside" and behind the car, not under the car.

If you were trying to run all four cylinders through 1 slip-on you might have a problem, but with two I don't think nois would be an issue. If you get take-offs from a Yamaha FJR1300 or a Suzuki Hyabusa, you would have no problems with noise as the stock mufflers have to deal with noise emission standard, yet deal with 145+ horse power. They might even be too quiet.
