Don't you love your working on your M42

Having a ball  putting it all back together after shipping out  for a  complete  rebuild.. Will put the powder coated valve cover on once it's in the engine bay. Top intake was powdered. Came out good I think. Very hard and durable too.   All  those cooling hoses... WTF  ?????

Ahh, a clean motor is a beautiful sight.   Sadly, mine's not that clean, but it has 192k miles on it.  Have fun routing the hoses!

Nice & clean, oh how I wish mine looked like that!  One thing I saw...the pressure valve thingy (off-white)...that goes to the brake booster.  Looks like you have it connected elsewhere...might want to check that!

Yeah thanks on the pressure valve.  All the plumbing is just stuck up there for now. Gonna put it  together this  weekend. Hopefully........Noticed the Magnecor  8.5  wires are tight in the wire holder. Gonna have to trim the wire hoder ends or somethng......

Also see the hose diagram (nightmare) taped up there for reference. You can eliminate the siamese sections by doing the following:
1) 1 hose from the valve cover vent to the bottom of the throttle body.
2) Cap the water line coming from the head at hose 11 and the hose at the coolant pipe at hose 18.
3) One hose #13 from the idle control valve (7) to the intake bellows (4).
If you are in a cold climate and need the throttle body heated you can still eliminate the siamese stuff by going from the lower plate (7) directly to the coolant pipe (4) at hose #18.

Thanks for the  spagetti hose( more like  ho's!!) help.  I actually spent a good  3-4 hours going over it, flipping between oem diagrams, reading hose numbers  and just taking my time. I have it  all stock now. It feels like BMW could have made a simpler  scheme  between vacum and cooling including the  throttle body.  But if it works enough said.  Now I just need to clean air flow meter and housing, tighten intake and header bolts,  put  the belts on and get ready to drope her in. Probable next weekend....

Only reason that I can see not to is that that the outlet from the head bleeds steam from a hot spot. Chevy small blocks with stock configured heads have a hot spot in the middle where two exhaust ports are together. One solution was to drill and tap for a bleed off line from there to the top of the thermostat housing. I don't see that with the M42. I think it's just a nearby place to tap into hot water for the throttle body de-icer. As small as it is I don't think it's for any other purpose.
What do folks with ITB's do?
