Guess what got handed to me today?

No, not that, this!

I am loving it!  Def got some wear but will clean up nicely.  Came off a Merc straight from the fatherland, I think circa 1990.  If so then it is a "perfect" match for the 91.

These are so called "red numbers" which basically means that they are temperary plates usually used for short periods of times. I have two sets from when i picked up the 318is and the M3. I think mine had a validity of 14 days. The numbers in the red field has to do with the expirey.

That is great.  Your temps are better than ours.  We use paper in Florida.  So if my numbers are 90-10, what is the length of time they could be used?

I usually don't see this style. It'll look great.

I saw this plate at a meet recently and I'm trying to figure out if it's in fact original. The flag along with letter/numbers were stamped. First time I've seen one like it. I want one bad.

The plate with the "Y" is German Army - Bundeswehr.

The plates with the red box are export plates and used to be the oval ones.

Great find! +1 for you :)

Any idea where I would be able to source one? (crosses fingers that sports.racer is in the German Army)

Sorry, no. I grew up in Germany during the cold war and remember seeing those "Y" plates everywhere. Lived in Berlin for a while too and saw many of the oval plates, although at the time I was told they were "international" plates and had something to do with diplomats.
