it drive me crazy how i can remove the timing case from the engine block  i allready remove the screws but nothing anyone can help ? :confused:

Rubber mallet - the gasket may be holding it on. Just make *sure* that you have in fact removed all of the bolts. And don't hit it so hard that you'll crack it...

Sorry im stupid!!!! :D i just forgot the bolt near the oil filter coz its sooo... derty i allready remove the cover sandblasting it and ready for special coat :)

What are you doing in the timing case? Just curious :). How often should the timing chain be replaced, if ever?

I just did the exact same thing.  That one bolt on the right, sort of in a channel, was so covered with gunk I couldn't even see it.

If you keep the tensioner replaced every 40k, your chain may go 180k miles or more.  I have heard of people selling ones with 140k on them and claiming they are fine. If you do not keep it fresh, your chain may last as little as 100k-120k miles as mine did.

Unfortunately little has come out of BMW regarding any of this, so those numbers are based on what I have seen on this board and others, as well as my own experience.

Would it be a safe bet just to change the chain if you're going to replace all the gaskets in the front timing case anyways? I have a leak coming from the front case and was wondering what to change besides the gaskets. Hasn't been taken apart yet but the mechanics let me know it was leaking. Car has about 180k km's on it.
