Pinion preload
« on: August 04, 2022, 08:30:12 PM »
Anyone have the specs for the small case pinion bearing preload? I've come across 5-9in pounds and 20-24in pounds. I really don't feel like paying for the BMW TIS subscription as I'm sure someone has this information.

I'm not changing anything except the 4 bearings and seals and I marked the original carrier shims for the side they came off, so I shouldn't have to worry to much about backlash (I'll get some making compound and make sure the contact pattern is correct though).

I have the 1989 repair manual on microfiche downloaded to my computer. I looked up the information, but I'm not seeing any differentiation between small, medium, and large diffs.

Shoot me a PM and I'll share what I have.
