Okay.. I'm really puzzled about this. As some of you might remember.. my timing chain slipped during the summer and busted my motor. I put an m44 in with all new timing related parts (chain, guides, tensioner etc.).

Somehow I still have a lot of chain noise as if there is some kind of interference/wear going on. I took the valve cover off and took a peek.. everything appears to be okay. The noise becomes very noticable around 3500 rpms. Anybody have any thoughts?

have you changed the tensioner?

Also, was everything torqued properly?

I don't know. But this makes me think, I've had predictable noise around this rpm, esp. partial throttle and decel, but figured it was somethign else. I still hope its this shady heat shielding rattling around in the rear above the my muffler.

Well... When i started losing oil pan bolts, i would get intermittent chain noise... Maybe check yer lower pan for bolts with an oil change?

Check the lower timing chain sprocket, I will bet it is worn and the chain is stretched. Mine was doing this with a new tensioner for a while before the chain started to break up.
