Is this turbo too small?
« on: March 12, 2018, 10:46:12 AM »
Hello everyone, I am planning to boost my m42. I am doing a low boost setup, about 4-6 psi because I don't want to cross the 200hp line (i want to keep stock injectors for now and they can flow up to 205hp). I just got Garrett GT1544V basically for free. It is in excellent condition so I am keen to use it, however the recommended engine size is only from 1000cc up to 1600cc. I am a little worried that the exhaust gasses won't flow as fast as they should and they will be returning to the combustion chamber. Does anyone know if this turbo is usable or how can I calculate if it would work? Thanks.

That turbo is more designed for a snowmobile/atv/motorcycle engine. Its way too small for your engine. A GT25 frame turbo is the smallest I would consider, GT28 is more appropriate.

Thank you! I kinda knew it would be too small but I wanted to hear other opinions as well.
