I've been working on this car off and on for a couple of months. Brief history: The owner is a mechanic who replaced the engine with one from a wrecked 318, '90 or '91. I repaired the fuel pump, cleaned the ground strap ends and tightened them, tried a couple of AFMs and ECUs that I had (used), replaced the cam and crank sensors with used. I have changed the plugs and sprayed starting fluid into the intake boot and only got sporadic popping and sometimes blowing off the vacuum hoses. The best results came from pouring small amounts of gasoline into the spark plug ports and re-installing them. Car only ran for a few seconds though. I've jumpered the main and fuel relays and even isolated the two injector wires leading to the DME so that I could manually ground them. Still won't start. I have spark and fuel but the injectors apparently are not opening. I've also done a compression test dry and wet, with very good readings. My guess is that the car needs both cam and crank sensors (NEW). Is there anything I could be overlooking, like an obscure relay or temperature switch that can shut down the injectors if bad? Thanks.
