How to replace vacuum hoses?
« on: June 05, 2016, 08:19:32 PM »
After clean and reinstalling my ICV with the old vacuum hoses, my idle is now worse than ever. I know I need to replace the vacuum hoses, but that's where I'm confused.

It seems the only options are to pay about $400 for all the hoses from the dealership, particularly the bespoke ICV ones, or tackle the "mess under the intake" hose delete job.

The first option seems ridiculous to me so I'm looking into doing the hose delete/rationalize, but I must admit being a little intimidated by it. Does anybody have a more definite guide than just "read the entire thread and pick through the replies"? I suppose I could manage with the helpful diagram that somebody made of all the hoses, but I dunno. Guess I'm just looking for some noob pointers on this stuff. Also don't know which hoses to buy! Would a silicone hose kit from here (http://www.hiperformancestore.com/BMW.htm) work okay?

Is there a way to fix just the ICV hoses? The top one is easy but how are people routing the bottom one?

Thanks for any replies. Looking to do this pretty soon as my idle sucks.

Update: I see that the "mess under the intake" is mostly coolant hoses. I'm going to replace the ICV hoses with silicon from the kit I linked. Any issues with that?

Also, another thing. Does anybody know the proper orientation for the ICV? I've read sources that say it should be installed with the arrow pointing up (with plug closest to firewall), and also the OPPOSITE.

The icv orientation would affect your idle a lot.

That kit looks fine.

The mess under the intake is not as bad as it looks, highly recommend you print out the picture of what to delete/add/keep. Once you get in there it gets pretty clear what you need to do. Make sure you point the ICV in the right direction, or the car will barely run.
