Rough idle & lack of gas
« on: March 21, 2016, 03:16:42 PM »
It's rough idling when in neutral, it was sitting 12years, I changed fuel filter, sparks, and oil. Also there is a huge delay when I hit the gas. Is it the MAF, maybe still old gas in system? I only added one tank of fresh after new fuel filter, or could it be Injectors. What could it be that I could check or change? Videos below

I'm tempted to your fuel or fuel system, but you have changed the fuel. Blockage perhaps or pump. Do you have access to a pressure tester? To see what pressure your fuel system is running at?

12 years dam that's a while between drinks.

Cheers

So update: today she fired up and rough idle for about 10-15 mins then idle was better much more stable. I don't know if the lil bit of fresh gas is just now getting thru * I hadn't drove it anywhere yet just firing it up for testing. Today the only thing I did was put in a new MAF, I do kinda smell fuel inside the car a bit, so right now I'm with in the week I'll be putting in new spark plug wire and maybe fuel pump and coils. I'm just ready for it to run continuously smooth at start up so that I could trust it a enough for a ride around the block. I'm gonna put more fresh fuel in here tomorrow too or this weekend. Any other pointer for you'll guy would def be appreciated.

Rough idle might be a stuck injector, or a sticky AFM, or old gas. Check the vac line at the FPR for cracking. In a pinch, a long screwdriver can be used as a mechanic's stethoscope to diagnose a stuck injector. You'll absolutely hear the injectors clicking away.

Run it a while, it'll likely get better. Check the fuel tank for rust too - if the pump picks that up it'll clog the fuel filter rapidly.

That fuel smell inside the car might just be a bad o-ring at the pump flange. Easy enough to replace. Sometimes the fuel expansion tank vent hoses crack, that'll cause the same smell.

FPR is fuel pressure regulator, it keeps the fuel in lines at a even pressure.

When you say rough idle, what do you mean?
Rpm too high?
Not stable?

not stable, its like dies out till the engine warms up or unless i keep tapping gas to rev it up to keep it going.
