First time poster, hoping to get an answer.
Today I managed to fix whatever reason my auxiliary fan plug wasn't getting power, so I spliced in the Hayden electric fan I replaced the clutch fan and auxiliary fan with into the high speed wire. I started up the car and let it get to 210f, sure enough the electric fan kicked on for a bit and kicked back off several times so hooray for that .
The new hurdle i have to tackle is when the electric fan kicks on it makes the rpm's drop for a second or 2 making it sound like the car is about to stall. I searched around on the subject and found it's a sort of common thing that happens to the 318i when the auxiliary fan would come on. But for some other people it wasn't an issue at all. I am using all of the factory wiring to run this fan it's not a 3rd party relay wiring kit.
Some said it because it's a 4 cylinder, replace the O2, replace the fuel filter, check the battery and the alternator etc... My battery is brand new not even 3 months old, I have no codes for the O2 but I never changed it so I'll pick one up Friday, I don't see how this will fix the problem though. My alternator is working fine, I've never had and charging problems of the sort.
