running high compression engine in
« on: December 30, 2015, 11:44:31 AM »
Hi.

Do you guys do anything different whilst running a high compression engine in?

As in getting a remap before hand?

I will be running a 12:1 compression and will be running on 'off the shelf' chip

Regards
Sion

Hi Sion

You sound like your nearly done?
You can't remap it until you have completed everything. Intake exhaust and running!
Which Ecu are you using?

Hi Rohan.

Yes, had a chat with my builder just before Christmas sounds like all the machining is done and he said my engine is the first to be built in the new year. Once the engine is back i should have everything back on in a weekend.

For now standard ecu. But i have a new shell to built in next 2/3/4 years which if the engine is a success (or possibly if i go further with the build) it will run standalone and itbs. (Ill post pics of the shell in a few mins on my build)

Great to hear Sion

But your missing the point a little m44, e36 m42 or e30 m42 ecu?

With the 2 later ecus you can dial up the afm to get the correct air fuel ratio roughly.
To avoid any damage to your new engine! :'(
But you will need a o2 sensor.
With the m44 ecu it has to be tuned straight away.

Cheers Rohan

ok this, is interesting, i havent really looked into what/how/where of an afm as I thought every one swapped to maf of a e36 etc

This is the sort of thing I was hoping I may be overlooking. as I asked a general question on a non bmw forum, and got responses like just listen to your builder.

How is this going to help? will my maf not compensate?

my e36 has a 02 sensor
cheers
Sion

Maf?

Which ecu are you using?

Can you read the o2 sensor? Or are you referring to the ecu o2 sensor?

maf as in mass air flow sensor

running a standard e36 318ti ecu which has been remapped.

i ve never tried reading the 02 sensors. I do have the correct adapter to plug in and a scanner which will scan though. im refering to o2 sesnor on the exhaust. has on before the cat? or am I thinking of the wrong thing haha joys of trying totalk on the internet.

cheerrs Rohan.

Hi Sion

Ok sounds like your talking m44 ecu then.

What a pickle your in, how is your ecu already remapped?

Somebody else on this forum has done a similar thing very very recently, and he had to do a piggy back ecu to get to stop pinging! It was running way to lean with the standard ecu.
And he could not easily adjust the air fuel ratio because of the maf rather than afm. He would be the best person to speak too. Or find and read his thread.

Cheers Rohan
