No spark start
« on: September 09, 2015, 11:55:41 PM »
I am having a problem where my car doesn't start it just cranks and cranks. When i remove one of the spark plugs the car turns on right away. Has anyone had this issue before?

I just posted in your other thread...I've never heard of pulling a plug to get an engine started.

First, a few dumb questions:
Plugs are in the right order on the motor, 1 at the radiator, 4 at the firewall?
If you have the early-style separate coils are the connectors matched up properly 1-4? You might have to disconnect the DME and test for the proper wires, since the stickers usually fall off.

You had swapped the DME too, right? The earlier DMEs could had some problems with individual coils dying. When that happens, they burn out a one of the coil drivers inside the DME. You need to swap both the DME and the bad pack at the same time to eliminate the problem, since the bad coil will eventually just kill the next DME the same way. In this case it's usually best to go for a COP conversion since M60 coils are far cheaper than the E36 pack.
