M42 overheating... Don't know why
« on: May 24, 2015, 08:35:46 PM »
Hey guys, I asked on r3v but I'll ask here too. My car has been running hot lately. The temperature gauge stays around the 3/4 mark, sometimes a little less. I've already replaced the thermostat with a new 88 degree thermostat and replaced the temp sender for the gauge cluster. I've also tracked down and fixed all leaks with a pressure tester and UV light. I don't understand what is going on or what to check next.

I almost wonder if the gauge is not working right. I am using a rebuilt gauge cluster but you guys know how e30 gauges are. I've used an infrared thermometer on the thermostat housing and radiator and it only reads around 60-70 degrees celsius.

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!
