Timing Help please
« on: May 13, 2015, 03:26:20 PM »
Ok so I have been working on a 318i and the long story short the timing chain jumped a few times on the crank the engine is not in top dead center and the cams are rotated. How do I retime/fix this?

Do you own an E36 Bentley manual or a E36 Haynes Manual?  If so there are relevant sections to timing the car.  I would be especially cautious of having bent valves if you jumped timing.  There are some really good articles on timing chain replacement on the web.  I used this one for my first timing system replacement on the M42: http://www.esatclear.ie/~bpurcell/318istimingchain.html

I'd recommend that you read up on the procedure and decide if this is something from a time/tools/ability standpoint that you can tackle.

Good Luck!  Post up what you find out about the carnage!
