Lifter diagnosis and replacement.

I am looking into replacing my valve lifters due to the common ticking. I need to do it cheap, but want to make sure I don't hurt the engine. I have a second M42 head that came with my car, but I have no knowledge of the condition of the lifters in that head. I am hoping those are good and I can put them in my engine. Is there a way to test the lifters out, or check them?
Also, do any of you have experience with these?

I am guessing they wouldn't last too long.
Thanks!
