Forgot how much I love my e30
« on: February 27, 2015, 09:52:19 AM »
Since it has been winter, and I washed/waxed the car before it got cold, I haven't been driving my 318is.   Combine that with plans to remove my metal front valance (possum damage - like hitting a dog just about), and somebody accidentally unplugging my battery tender, and a fuel line leak next to the filter, and you can see why I haven't driven it.  I fixed the fuel leak, charged the battery, and drove it to work today.  I forgot how much I love this car.  It is so analog, so enjoyable to drive, so mechanically simple, so pure, compared to today's cars.  I have thought about selling the car (it is in fantastic condition), to pay off some remaining debt, but when I drive it, I just don't know if I could do it!!  Just thought I'd drop a line here to say how much I missed my car, and would miss it if it were gone.

Thanks,
tom

Same here, almost exactly. My car has been parked at the bottom of the driveway for months. I have a fuel leak under the manifold, bald front tires, and the battery is on life support with a cheap HF solar charger.

I still love driving the car though. It's earned a place in my little collection. I wouldn't get a lot out of it anyway...what's a sedan with nearly 300K miles worth? Maybe $1000? I'm not the only one that wants to keep it, either. My kids won't let me sell it - they want to drive it around themselves! That's not very far down the road either - my oldest will probably be driving in four years.

Great post!!

Ive never driven my 318iS (bought it w/o brakes as a resto project) and its really cool to be completely rebuilding the car from scratch and looking forward to the day I will finish the project.. I was hoping to finish by the end of this summer but there is simply too many time consuming things to do... Oddly enough, I bought a second 318iS a few months ago as a parts car, running but with a busted head gasket, so if I want to drive that one I have to fix that first... I might, but that its just so much work...

Maybe I'll just buy a nice e30 M3 to tide me over...  ;D

I'm jealous you can drive yours, mines in a friend's garage for the winter. At least another month before it will be nice enough to get it out and drive again :'(.
