I bought a VAG coil to see how it fits on the M42 valve cover. I have used a few different setups, but I was curious to know how these worked out since they have the igniters built in and are "smart" coils. For people going standalone this can have a huge benefit as not all systems have igniters buit into the ECU and would otherwise require a spark box to control dub coils like the M50 coils. The coils still sit too high to make the "BMW" plug cover work, but I think they fit better than the M50 coils and actually have igniters built in to them at a much lower cost.
Part number tested was 07K 905 715F, cost is around $25
