the more I get out, the more I appreciate this forum...
« on: October 14, 2014, 03:18:22 PM »
Having picked up the e46 and needing a few parts for it.... It's been trying times. Nothing better than explaining to your wife that you just spent $75 on a used part that was supposed to be 'less than a month old' and having it show up with a decade worth of build-up and fail in less than 2weeks... pic sent was not the one that showed up?! then having to buy a new replacement for $200...

So far, I have dealt with three different people on a couple of the e46 forums for used parts. And all three have been disappointing.

Just a bunch of clueless ding dongs... Seems to be more grown-up people with basic understanding of what is expected.
I have never had a problem on this forum with buying or selling used parts.

E46 forums are mostly based on what wheels, what mods and how I wrecked it...

Thanks to all who come here and make life a little better for us.

Aw shucks...you're welcome!

Just kidding. The later BMWs are just too new. They haven't hit that sweet spot of obsolescence quite yet.

I've had one experience on this forum where I didn't get the parts I paid for, but it wasn't very much money and it was for my spare parts inventory. Considering how many good deals I've gotten from members on this forum I'm still WAY ahead! :)

Anything newer than 1995 is a maintenance nightmare!  I had a 1997 528i w/ a manual.  Driveline is great, but everything else just brakes too often.  I sold it to my brother ...  I love my E28, E30, and pre 95 E36.  Rock solid cars.

My Dad recently bought an E53 X5 3.0xi ... a 5%er manual transmission and it's a 2004 ... a six speed!

To me, people who don't want to drive older cars make about as much sense as someone saying they don't want to drink an older wine.

I sold the 323i last weekend and lost $.... Something I rarely say with me and buying cheap cars but I got tired of it and neither of the kids liked/wanted it because it had an automatic transmission. E46 site was annoying as heck. No real knowledge and lots of the same things; new wheels, breakdowns, etc.

We are now looking at older X3's with 5spd manual

I agree. Most newer BMWs are a waste of time, until depreciation has made it worthwhile to pick them up economically. There are also significant improvements from re-engineering, TSBs and shade tree fixes. I hope they stay popular though. I need lots of well-heeled owners to buy new ones so there are enough survivors to pick from.

I am envious with a few things. The newer cars have some improvements in power, but that doesn't do much for me. The comfort (?) seats in the E65 7-series are very nice though. They're so good that they almost make looking at such an ugly car worthwhile. Very nice. I'd bet they weigh 200# each though.
