M42 Not running right after HG job.
« on: September 08, 2014, 11:44:56 AM »
Hello everyone, this is going to be my first post here.
So two weeks (or longer) ago i found out that my head gasket went out, it was leaking coolant right through the exhaust. So now i have the head gasket replaced, refurbished cylinder head and Used cams from the same machine shop that I got my Cyl. Head from.

So the issue is this, the car doesn't run right, it only runs with cylinder 2 and 4. I would pull out the spark plug wires for cyl 1&3 while its running and it doesn't change anything but when i pull out the wire for 2 or 4 it doesn't die but it runs rougher. So I've been going back and forth with the timing and stuff and I still can't seem to get it right even when i set the timing to "Stock"

I have checked for spark and everything. But one thing that caught my attention was the part number on the used camshafts that I got.

So please if anyone has had this issue or can help me with it, thanks in advance and help is really appreciated.

I hate to ask a stupid question but is the 1721195i camshaft on the exhaust/lower/passenger side of motor?

The camshafts are in the correct spots. E is on intake and A is in Exhaust
And  that one is on the intake side.

I'll ask a dumber question: Is there a sensor that can go bad which would prevent cylinders 1 & 3 to not fire? Crank position sensor in collaboration with...?
To the OP, are you using the factory coil packs and plug wires? All in the proper order?  Crank pulley, and cam pulleys were all at TDC when you reassembled?

The sensors were working before, i didn't have this issue before taking this all apart. But My only guess right now is the timing and im changing plugs right now.
And yes everything is in order and i remember my old camshaft didn't have a stand on the A so idk wtf is happening here lol.
