Rev shift Guibo
« on: July 09, 2014, 11:59:14 AM »
Not trying to start any arguments here like all the other bmw forums have lol! BUT... Just trying to see what every one's opinions are on the rev shift guibo. I know Most people hate it.. as a "Flex Disk" Is supposed to flex. However there is an elastic element here so its not completely rigid.. Any ways i will Probably avoid this but my disc is worn and i keep coming back to the idea of this might be better then the stock guibo because the stock will always fail its just a matter of time.!? And not taking into account sub harmonic and harmonic resonance's that could develop as a result i would think this slightly more rigid design would allow for less angular misalignment and a more direct feel/more responsive feel??

Also This Function 7 Disk looks to be a much better design but is not an option for e30 and will only work on e36 if you have an m3 tranny...

Looks good to me, I'd figure you've solved a problem. I'd worry that you'd create other problems, like additional Noise/Vibration/Harshness.

I'd go for it. I'm glad you posted it, makes me think about the worn guibo I have on my E23...

Dave your absolutely right about NVH! Its such a critical factor when trying to balance performance/reliabilty from a street car and not a Race car. And that's making me lean towards the OE. The thing that i love about the function 7 though is its rebuild-able! (Holy grail for us DIY"ers) I think something interesting to note is That even Bmw has Finally acknowledged certain downfalls & changed the design of Their flex disk.... Sorta like they backed away from the statement of "life time" Transmission Fluids :). http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E90-335i-N54_3.0L/ES2500955/

I would never consider one of those flex discs. The reason is they don't flex! A material of the durometer they use is way too rigid to perform the parts intended function. The E9x engines use an almuinum ring with rubber inserts...but they use rubber inserts, not poly.

The flex disc has to flex! If this was not necessary BMW would have directly connected the driveshaft to the transmission.
