Engine stops running on nice sunny days.

i've have a similar problem with my previous 323i solution was other fuel pump.

I believe it could be the fuel pump as well but in a different way then not giving enough pressure. I had a similar issue where the car was intermittent and I got to the point where I kept the rear seat lifted and smacked the top of the cover to the pump to straighten it out because I thought that was the issue. I finally broke down one night near my buddy's house, who happens to be a master BMW mechanic, and he had nothing but a flashlight and a screwdriver and found the problem within a couple of minutes. I had to replace the whole unit not just the pump itself because it was the housing with the electrical connection that was the problem....not the pump itself..  Just my .02

TGoode: I have been driving down the road at 30 mph and had the engine die on the go.  Also I believe the fuel pump will not run until the crank sensor tells it that the crank is turning. I was driving around with the seat up for a while but the pump always hummed along.  The question is; does the engine stop because the pump stops.  The daughters and I never could tell if that was the case. It only happens perhaps once every other week when driven in the heat of the afternoon. The strange thing to me is why and/or how is heat effecting the fuel pump.  I understand that fuel is cycled back to the tank from the engine but this is curious to me. I am trying to remember if the level of fuel in the tank makes a difference. My brain is telling me that this engine stoppage usually happens when the tank is less than half full. That must be a clue!!
I will install a new pump.  Would you recommend replacing the hole contraption or just the pump?

You're correct - the DME will kill the pump power if it detects no signal from the crank angle sensor.

I'd be tempted to replace just the fuel pump instead of the whole deal. There are cheap TRE pumps on eBay that are supposed to be a fine replacement; there's a writeup here somewhere. The full BMW housing with the Bosch pump is pricey, but high quality.

Hopefully he fixed it with the fuel pump as he hasn't posted back here since august 6th! That or his daughters dragged him to a shop lol.  Fingers crossed he got it all sorted out !
