Clutch question
« on: June 29, 2014, 10:37:56 AM »
Has anyone ever tried using an uprated clutch on an unmodified engine before? Something like this http://www.ecstuning.com/ES2725061/ for a daily car that would get moderate track use would seem like a good idea to me but I was wondering if anyone has any experience to comment on it with?

Thanks

It will work if your going to be on the track alot. Other wise i would put my money elsewhere for just a daily with stock engine.

Do you know what the difference is when using a clutch like that? Are they harsher to change gear or more difficult to feather?

the stage of the clutch means the friction material can hold a greater torque.
So to answer your question A Stage 2  clutch will give you greater clamping and torque capability with mildly decreased driveability. Usually stage 2 is done after some engine modifications but if you want to track it alot you could do it.

Cheers, I had been looking at this as well http://www.ecstuning.com/ES2725197/ and this http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/KUPP-STAGE-1-CLUTCH-KIT-1991-99-BMW-318i-318is-318ti-w-A-C-Z3-E36-1-8L-1-9L-DOHC-/161145196621?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3A318is&hash=item258500904d but honestly both of them look to me to be exact OEM replacements with a coloured pressure plate, so I was thinking that I may as well try the one up...
