After months of waiting, I finally had time to focus on my project and as of moments ago, I was able to successfully start my M42 powered E21. Vid below;
http://youtu.be/0-aK1Fv5nXsI still have a million other things to sort out before she's track worthy, but so far it sounds good, but then agian, I've never really heard an M42 run in person. My current set up has no cat/exhaust which explains why it's so loud. It's basically the header and down pipe, cut off at the cat.
I will most definitely be getting an exhaust, but I wanted to hear this puppy roar.
Few questions;
1.) oil leak near profile gasket - I used VR gaskets, but maybe that was a mistake? Any suggestions to stop the leak?
2.) smoke coming near (or from) the exhaust manifold/headers. Thinking it's an exhaust leak? Or possible oil burning?
FYI I'm running Dino oil with zinc mineral additive because I have new bearings for both crankshaft and rods. Along with that I also have new piston rings. So if that's a factor, let me know.
This is my first engine rebuild. To have it start and idle is a big accomplishment. Without the help of the seniors on this forum I would of never been able to get as far as I did. So thank you!! (Now help me lol)
