e30 pats needed for m42 swap
« on: March 12, 2014, 04:30:16 PM »
Hi everyone. I'm working on an m42 engine swap for my 2002. my engine is out of an e36 and everything I've read says that i need to switch to an e30 intake to make it fit. they seem to have discontinued it on realOEM and everywhere else that they're posted the seem to actually be e36 manifolds(whats up with that?). Does any body know where i should look or have any suggestions?

Post a thread in the WTB section of the forum. I might have an extra one, but I'll have to look.

Another member had a problem with his M42, swapped it for an M50. It's all in this thread - might be worth a PM or two to see if he still has the motor.

Where are you located in the world? If you're in Phoenix Metro Area, Arizona, USA I have a spare e30 M42 to pull parts from.

I'm in Virginia. Just outside of D.C.. I might try look at some junk yards or something.

Here are two resources for your tool box:

I'm in Waynesboro, VA. I'll take a look out in the garage this afternoon and let you know.

i can check my bins.  I believe i have an extra one if kelfaman doesn't have one

I assume you're talking about needing the first one vs the second one which you have?

i've got an extra one of these

This is what you already have?

Ya I need the first one. Though I'm wondering now if it would be more wise to change the braking system since it's the breakbooster thats preventing me from using the one I already have. Is that even possible or worth the trouble?

I'd bet there are a bunch of skinnier boosters that can be made to fit. Check out some of the M50 E30 swaps. They tend to use 2002 or E21 boosters. You could also relocate the booster or use the BMW E23/E24/GM hydroboost units. Both are expensive choices and require some fabrication. But since you already have the '02 booster in your '02, I'm not sure what would fit.

You might want to email this guy, whoever he is - he specializes in this swap.

Can you 'massage' the stock booster to make it fit? It might bind internally, but those are

I know this is off-topic, but be aware that you might have EWS on the donor M42 - you'd need the later DME to run the manifold, you might also need the EWS sender ring, original E36 ignition key, and code box.
