Considering H&R springs - Are these the race springs?
« on: December 31, 2013, 03:28:45 AM »
Hi there

I am considering H&R lowering spring set for my '90 iS. Now I know a set of springs second hand.
Picture in Attachement, this would be the H&R number: 29663-1.

Now I am wondering if these springs are the race springs from H&R (that most of you all recommend) for a E30 318iS.

I've already searched for some info, but I'm not finding any relevant info(in my opinion)  :( .

Hope you guy's can help me out here.

Thanks!!!

Just got off the phone with H&R......The spring set to have is the 29964. This is a little softer in the rear but overall the same rates as the 50404-55 and will sit lower on our E30 318is. It's actually only listed for one application and that is the 84-85 E30 318i. If you happen to find an E30M3 that is changing suspensions then look for 3/1 HA for the rears and 3/1 VA with a white paint mark after it on the fronts. It is the 29664 Kit.

The race springs 50404-88 rates are 315 Front and 570 Rear.

I know I have seen someone post the 29664 is the way to go so whoever that was .....you were right:-)

HTH....

Cheers,
~Ralph

This is from one of my older posts.... Not sure where you got the 29663 number from but maybe you meant 29664? This is the E30M3 kit which is also what you have posted in the pic 3/1VA and 3/1HA. The VA stands for Vorder Achse (Front Axle) and HA stands for Hinter Achse (Rear Axle).

Cheers,
~Ralph

I think that 29663 are H&R springs for 318is and 29664 for 325i.

I would email H&R direct and ask them. They won't give you spring rates in kits but they will let you know if one is softer or so on than another that you're trying to source. The kit you show is definitely for the E30M3.  thebrelon is correct that the 29664 kit is for the 325.
Here is Turner's site with all the kits listed.

http://www.turnermotorsport.com/BMW-E30/c-63-bmw-hr-springs.aspx

Here is the info I got from Ryan at H&R.....

"I checked into it a little more and the 29664 would be the option to use if you wanted to be a little lower than the standard 50404 kit.
Rates between the two kits are comparable with the 29964 being just a little softer in the rear."
