new update on running problem
« on: January 06, 2007, 02:06:27 PM »
so after putting in a new crank sensor it runs now. it still idles like crap for the first while, then it seems to smooth out and idle smooth, still a little rough on cylinders 3&4.... and then if i rev it it revs smooth and then upon returning to idle it seems to studder for a little while and then return to a smooth idle... suggestions?
Side note: originally the problem was on cylinders 1&2, put on new coils on 3&4, moved the oil coils to 1&2, now the problem is on cylinders 3&4. definitely getting good spark... ask me how i know;)

how about the o2 sensor compensation? did you unplug the ecu?
if so drive it around and see if it gets smoother

how about the tps and icv . did you check them .
90% of idle problems are those and vacuumn leaks.
glad to see you finally got your part.
I just today put a new tps in the car and it did make a difference. I guess after 186,000 miles these things wear out .The only sensor I haven't changed is the camshaft sensor.
good luck.

02 sensor is new, i even sprung for the oem one instead of the 5l mustang one. and i did unplug the ecu yes. Atleast it runs i guess... as for ICV, i have an xtra and i'v cleaned this one, but i'm not sure how to test it... i tried swapping them but it didn't do much, i knnow it opens and closes, and unplugging it makes it idle even worse. All the vacuum lines are new, with new hose clamps. All gaskets are new, and sealing fine. I have a new TPS on it as well. The crank sensor is reading low ohms even on the new one, compared to my friends which reads 590, mine is reading 530 so i'm a little concerned about that and i think that might be the problem right there. the cam sensor i have is good, it was supposed to be 590ohms so give yours a check. (that is refreced off a new, working cam sensor, not a bently or other book.

I doubt it's your crank pos. sensor if it's new

the crank sensor has the same readings as my old one, and i refrenced it off a working one and its resistance is way off. you do get faulty sensors occasionaly and i think in this case i did. As for codes, i'm getting no codes...

i was getting the same resistance from my new one as my old one .(my crank position sensor.)It would be interesting to see if anyone else on here has ever checked there crank sensor for resistance and what they got .
With all the big guns on this board someone must have checked this sensor ???

when I rode my  car today it ran really well .I remembered that I took out my bosch plugs and installed champions .The bosch plugs only had maybe a few thousand miles on them but i replaced them just in case they were the  problem of my crummy idle .So I decided to take the champions out and reinstall the boschs .
My car ran like crap . I put the champs back in and ran great .
Check your plugs , when I had bad idle my plugs were wet indicating a rich condition.
How do your plugs look?

ahh, good find, i forgot to take into the account that the sensor was hot... damnit that means its not the problem:( i'm so confused now. i'v replaced everything! everything except the ecu... which i'm doing this week. as for my plugs, they're pretty good looking, also pretty much brand new... about 1,000 km's on them and i think they're bosch...  maybe i will go back to champs? and i'm running RICH at idle.

Update!: ok, so lots of the problem is now gone.

i checked the cam timing and it was off by a few degrees, which gave it a bad idle and backfiring ( i guess with the new cams having increased rotation, overlap was more...) anyways so it runs now, and it doesn't miss. revs great, when cold... now i let it warm up and its got slight hesitation and i hit the gas and it just stalled outright, no stutter nothing, just stalled. Think this could be the temp sensors? or what are your guys's opinions.

also, if you gradually press the peddle down it revs, but if you just floor it it boggs out and wants to stall... this is at idle, and above idle as well...

OK! so another thing, fuel pressure does not hold. After turning off the car it emidiatley drops to 0, where as it used to hold 40psi for a while. Also when it stalls, the fuel pressure drops and then it stalls, so i'm guessing there is a leak somewhere, but i can't visibly see any leaks, and if it was leaking that bad... you'd think you could see it. is there a check valve in the line? or could this be my FPR?

I'm also getting 1244 as a fault code, which is cam sensor...

fuel pressure is maintained by both FPR and a check valve at the  Fuel pump .
You really need a bentley manual. If your losing pressure immediatley then you have a problem.
