Sideways?
« on: January 06, 2007, 01:27:24 AM »
Well I have a friend with a Chrysler Conquest(if any of you know what it is I will be amazed).  And he is always ragging on my about how little power my 1.8L car has.  Well tonight coming home from a friends house I was a little late.  I am stopped at a left turn lane to get on the onramp.  Light turns green and I floor it and crank the wheel, revs to 6500, shift into second and to my surprise my rear end starts sliding out.  That really got my attention.

So when I get off the freeway I am stopped at another left turn.  Light turns green and I floor it again.  Into second I was spinning them pretty damn hard.

So never, NEVER underestimate the power of the M42.  It will get even my super sticky Toyo's spinning.

With my setup stock clutch is to weak for dry tarmac, because it slips during start.

I definately want an LSD.  Getting some sideways action is just to much fun.

Shellback:  Yeah, the Conquest's are the same as the Starions.  Cool to see that you know about them.  I went for a ride in my friends, he has an S16G turbo and Nitrous.  He turned it up to 16 PSI, nitrous on, and floored it.  We were up to 80MPH instantly.  I was amazing at how fast the car pulled.  He also got it really sideways once and that was at 11PSI with not nitrous.

A guy I use to work with had a Conquest.  Chameleon blue, "Body Kit", Over 300whp though. That thing really flew but the guy was such an idiot I refused to ride in it with him. He pulled on my cousins VF Supercharged Vr6 Jetta like it was nothing.
Watch out loosing the rear, Its ended many E30s lives early.

I got one lined up.  $70.  What do I need to do to get it in good shape?  I haven't bought it yet by the way.

EDIT:  I want to make sure I don't already have one before I buy this one.  How can I find out?

You don't need a lot of power to spin the rears with an LSD diff. If you ever drive on gravel road, you'll see how easy it is to spin the rears even without revving it.

As for the Starquest, my friend had one and they "looked" good. They are a bit on the heavy side and you know they use the same motor as the early Chrysler minivans. ;) Although there is one guy living just north of me running 12's in his Chrysler mini-van, "Big Daddy". IMO, not really worth doing too much work on that motor except the basics. Most people swap out to the SR20-DET for more serious power.

Starquest= Mini-Van engines
240sx = truck motors

Edit: Here's the link to one of them: http://www.turbovan.net/van.html

if i can't read anything on my diff, can't i put the car in neutral, then on the lift and spin one rear tire? if they go opp. ways then it's open diff and if they roll the same dirrection then it's lsd.
