Odometer
« on: October 08, 2013, 04:36:44 PM »
This has probably been discussed before but I couldn't find a topic. My son replaced the subframe bushings on our 91 318is but he forgot to disconnect the triger on the diff. When he did notice it the connector was broken. He was able to reattach the leads. The odometer does not work. Is the trigger the driver for the odometer? Or is there a cable driven from the trans to the odometer? Checked the manual and there is not info for the odometer.
Thanks for your help.

The speedometer does pick up off the diff.  The odo is driven by the speedo electronically, but has a gear that tends to strip off.  There are repair kits, with a new nylon gear to replace the old one.  Beware that there are two different clusters that use two different odo gears - the VDO unit and the Motometer one.

Thanks Dave. I need to take he cluster out to look at the temp gauge (bounces around erratically). I'll then check out the odo. Appreciate your help.
