Indianapolis, IN - 1991 E30 318ic 5 speed Convertible - 84k miles
« on: September 16, 2013, 07:46:17 PM »
For sale is my 91 BMW 318i Convertible with manual transmission.  I bought it in May of 2012 as a summer car to cruise around town in and to wrench on as needed. It's only got approximately 84k original miles. I have records that confirm the mileage and show that the car was originally sold in California and then moved to Florida before being moved to the mid-west a few years ago. I've been lurking on the forums since I bought it and thought someone here may be interested.

My original goal for the car was to just enjoy it and slowly try to replace any worn components to bring it back to a like new condition. Lately I haven't really had time to dedicate to it or to even drive it very much, so I thought i'd try to sell it to someone else to pick up where I left off and to make a bit more room in my garage.

Since purchasing it, I've done the following:

Put new tires on (Falken Ziex ze-512)
Installed a new power steering rack (Slight upgrade to the closer ratio E36 rack)
Installed polyurethane steering coupler
Replaced all of the front suspension bushings, tie rod ends, and ball joints ( I bought the bushings for the rear suspension, transmission mount, and engine mounts but haven't had time to install yet. All included. Front bushings are polyurethane.)
Installed a new radiator
Repaired minor rot in the rear valence under the bumper.
Changed transmission, brake, and steering fluids. Changed to synthetic oil.
Replaced all filters with OEM
Replaced windshield with genuine BMW glass
Had to replace the stereo with an aftermarket one after the original stopped working.

Overall, the car is still in really good shape and worthy of some more TLC. The body is in fair shape, please consider that it's over 20 years old now. There is some minor hail damage on the hood and trunk lid as well as some other little dents and scratches here and there. There are a few spots where a little bit of surface rust is starting to come through, but the underside of the car still looks good. I couldn't find any structural rust problems after spending a lot of time under the car. The interior shows it's age a bit too with minor rips and tears, which aren't atypical in E30 cars. The only other issue that i'm aware of is that the speedometer/odometer just stopped working last weekend. It's probably an easy repair, just a bad gear in the instrument cluster that needs to be replaced.

I want to be up front about everything so that you will be as happy with the car as I have been. It's a really fun car to drive and an easy car to work on. The convertible top doesn't have any tears and still does a good job of keeping the rain out. However, when I bought it, the rear window (type with no zipper) was dried and cracked, and I put a temporary piece of marine grade vinyl in just so that there would be something there in case I ever got stuck in a rainstorm. I never planned on driving the car unless it was nice weather, so I didn't invest in a whole new top. I'm sorry that the car is so dirty in the pictures, but I didn't have a chance to wash it before taking the pictures. It really does look good once it's all cleaned up.

Enjoy the beautiful fall weather behind the wheel of this great little car that's rapidly becoming a classic.

I'm not interested in trades, and please don't submit any low-ball offers, I'm in no rush to sell and won't consider them. Asking $5,000.

Thanks for looking

Joe
