WTB: 1991 318is or 1989-90 325is - Eastern US
« on: August 25, 2013, 09:19:12 AM »
Hi all. I'd like to purchase a 1991 318is or a 1989-1990 325is w/ 5-speed. Within 8 hours drive from the DC metro area.  Stock engine that'll pass emissions test. Suspension upgrades not necessary, but are a plus. Prefer any color other than black, bronzit, or bright red.  If a 318is, prefer the cloth interior, but I can be flexible.

No projects, please. I'm looking for a fairly clean, no rust car that will be used as a weekend toy.  Not a perfect garage queen/show car.  Cash buyer.  Will pay market value, depending on its condition/service history.  PM me if you have a car that might fit what I'm looking for. Thanks.

A good E30 is hard to find. It will require patience and an obsessive search in every crack and corner. Not unusual at all for a decent deal to disappear within hours of an ad being posted...sometimes in a matter of minutes. I use the cPRO Craigslist app for my iPhone and have notifications sent to me when something I'm looking for is listed. I'm not sure if "searchtempest.com" has the same ability.

Here are two other enthusiast sites I often check:
http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/forumdisplay.php?f=142
http://www.e30tech.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=41

If you see something down my way that you want checked out let me know, I'd be happy to look at if for you.

Thanks for your advice, keflman.  I've only been at this for about 3 months, and I've missed out on a couple of cars, and passed on some as well.  Thankfully, I don't discourage easily!

I'll try out that cPRO app.  It sounds like it'll be a big help.  Thanks again!

Alpinweiss Slicktop 318iS just popped up in Pittsburgh.  I don't think it'll last - looks pretty decent.  Not running, $1800.

Thanks for pointing that out.  If only I was in the market for a project car, that would be one to go after.  Someone should snatch that car up quickly.

I have reluctantly been considering selling my 1991 318is.  Bought it from 2nd owner who had since 1994 when someone traded it in.  Have all service records.  It has been babied.  Originally cloth but had katskin leather installed.  No cracks on dash, near perfect interior.  All the usual maintenance items have been taken care of when needed.  Is tastefully lowered on bilsteins nad has a shock tower brace.  Stock engine.  No dents and only a couple of very, very minor dings.  Paint is original or nearly original.  I say that because at some point in its first three years of life (prior to 2nd owner getting car) it had the passenger door and front fender replaced, so I assume the whole car was resprayed at that time by a competent body shop.  The paint is excellent for a 22 year old car, and you can tell if it was repainted it was done a long time ago to factory specs.  I also have some 15" euroweaves that I have not placed on the car yet, but I just had them powdercoated in Bengal Silver.  they are flippin sweet!  AC works great.  I have original stereo, but currently there is a bluetooth head unit in the car with matching orange lighting.  The car is just about perfect, save for some clear starting to peel along the front of hood, and the urethane lip is fading.

THE ONLY REASON, I am even thinking of selling is because I just bought a foreclosure on the courthouse steps this week.....I had a verbal agreement on the sale of my current house, and then that fell through.  So I am now neck deep in a big wad of debt, and am just looking to liquidate this car (POSSIBLY) to have cash on hand for repairs until my loan is restructured.

The kicker is that I am not giving it away.  I would want $8000 for it at least, with the Euroweaves.  Less if you don't want the wheels.

It is seriously a good find, and a great car and it saddens me to even think about getting rid of it.  I was hoping to give it to my kids.  I may not be able to part with it, but just wanted to throw it out there just in case...

Thanks for suggesting your car, tfrain.  I'm kind of so-so on red cars, so I'd like to keep looking for the following:

Hi all. I'd like to purchase a 1991 318is or a 1989-1990 325is w/ 5-speed. Within 6 hours drive from the DC metro area. Stock engine that'll pass emissions test. Suspension upgrades not necessary, but are a plus. Prefer any color other than black, bronzit, or bright red. If a 318is, prefer the cloth interior, but I can be flexible. Non-smoker (wife has asthma).

No projects, please. I'm looking for a fairly clean, no rust car that will be used as a weekend toy. Not a perfect garage queen/show car. Cash buyer, $4k - $8.5k car. Will pay market value, depending on its condition/service history. PM me if you have a car that might fit what I'm looking for. Thanks!

Cool.  Yeah, my wife doesn't like the red either, but I kinda like it.  If you change your mind for whatever reason, let me know.
