Just Got my first M42!!
« on: August 07, 2013, 11:08:08 PM »
Hi Guys!

During my lunch break, I was browsing on CL like always, when this amazing find came up.

"I'm regretfully selling my BMW convertible because I just bought a bigger car, and now I am looking to find a home for it. Last owner for 8 yrs. It is in great mechanical condition, and with a little bit of minor work she can shine up nice. It has 135k miles and it is a 5-Speed manual. It is also the last year of this body style, so this is the hardest year to find. Couple that with the fact that it is a convertible and a manual/low miles, you have a very neat little car.

1991 BMW 318i Convertible
5-Speed shifts great clutch is very strong
2 owner car I have the CARFAX in hand. No accidents and Clean Title
Reg until Next July and I also have the smog in hand.
"Granitsilber metallic", paint has faded on hood and trunk. Otherwise nice
No dents or dings, body is very straight and still looks awesome.
Tires are very nice and brakes are newer.
New battery

The interior is in near mint shape. It has NO cracks on the dash, and everything works. All 4 windows go up and down, also it has the very rare optional seat warmers! The seats have no tears in them and the carpets are very nice. Original radio sounds great and it also has AC/heater.

The top works as intended, stows away nice. It has NO rips and it doesn't leak at all. It is like new. Also has rear defroster."

The guy took my low offer of 1600!!

So excited to be driving this baby!!

Thanks a lot guy!! ;D

Hey quick question... Does anyone know a general repair manual that covers the basics of the m42 or the 91 318?
I was to take the car on a road trip but I want go through the car first...

Check out Brendan Purcell's site http://www.esatclear.ie/~bpurcell/318ismaintenance.html, also FAQ/Reference section here.  That coupled with search will give you the answer to about anything you could asked for.  Getting your hands on an E30 Bentley Manual for the chassis and E36 Manual for the engine will pay dividends.

On long road trips only thing I can recommend is to pack a spare lower oil pan and a small in/lb torque wrench. Cheap one at Harbor Freight($20). It's +/-5% but better than nothing and you don't have to worry about it being lost/stolen.
Or at least some tubes of JB Weld just in case, you'll have to wait for that to cure but it may work.
