So I have come to realize that the MAF conversion needs an open element filter with a velocity stack...and the filter needs to be separated from hot under-hood air as my dyno runs showed me.  Member "gjuuu" here came up with a very slick setup a while back, and had some templates on his site.  I really liked the ideas, and elaborated on them.  I give him credit for the concept and overall dimensions.  His site is here:
http://members.dodo.com.au/~wawawa/
And the intake can be found through the menu to the left.

I built it from "sheetmetal" in the CAD program I use and it allows me to unfold the 3D form into a flat template.  Though I am going to be road tripping this weekend, I will be cutting a prototype out on the bandsaw soon.  Anyway, what started as a real simple project turned into something that probably belongs in the Artwork section.  Oh well......

Once it has been test fitted, I will get some dimensioned drawings up and out into the community so everyone can cut their hands up on some sheetmetal!  Misery...err hobbies love company?

Awesome,

I just moved my air filter, I haven´t hooked up the air temp signal as there was hardly any need for it, since the filter was always getting hot hot air.

But as soon as I moved it the air was that much colder that I need more advance just to even get the burn to stay in the combustion chamber,
I´ll be doing something similar to what you descibed, nothing as fancy but similar,

I´ll be connecting and tuning the air temp signal hopefully this weekend,
Other then the to cold air for the tuning the car is running really well

Do you have a template for that? I have a shear and brake available. Just curious if it was actual scale.

Been holding out on us eh!?!?!?  Yes, this is actual scale.  Like I mentioned, I started out solely drawing up a template for production, then got carried away after a Guinness.  I will see about a cardboard mockup this evening, though I need to change oil and do a thorough inspection before I drive 290 miles tomorrow.  Once I get it fitted around the ABS unit and have the air tube hole placed I will get some dimensioned drawings up.

Can you send me the DXF file ? If so I could plot some up on are large bed plotter. It would be very easy to make a template set out of paper or mylar.

Yeah I can do that.  I need to make a mock-up first as this one has no provisions for the brake lines coming out of the ABS unit.  Of course, I could always send this to you and have you play with it lol.  I will look into making a D-size DXF tonight.

Simpsons did it. (South Park reference)

It looks like hot air from the radiator would heat up your cold air intake.

E21 with M42 is wayyy cool though! Good job on the swap!

Ramblin Man...I have always wanted an E21 w/ an M42.  I am extremely jealous, just so you know.
