alkaba's E30 318is
« on: May 13, 2013, 09:51:12 AM »
Hello everyone! Greetings from Czech Republic, ahoj :)

This is my second E30 in three years...the 318is was my first car when i was 18. I sadly got rid of it because...money... :) And every day after that i have been on the forums and was looking for E30's ;D I was patient and waited for a good looking piece...and after ca 1,5 year after my first E30 i buyed my second one. The most unpowerfull petrol e30 ever made, the 316i :D
Pics after buying:

After few months i decided to buy an MT2 steering wheel, leather shift knob etc. I replaced the carped with a clean 6 cylinder one: (The old one was totally K.O, so i removed it with a knife) :D

I found out, that my E30 was never in a crash (many E30's in Czech are crashed and repaired) :)

Of course, this cannot be missing:

After a half year from the purchase i decided to get rid of the M40B16 shitty noisy underpowered engine :D My friend just wanted to get rid of one M42 from E36, so i decided to buy it from him. He gave me it for 100 bucks :D The engine was fitted in an E30 before, so i didn't have to solve thing like the oil pan etc.

First ride after swap: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xP7BP9f1BEU
without exhaust :D

I am very happy with the M42, it is starting to make little noise when its cold (valve lifters), but nothing serious. I cannot complain for that money :) I left the 4.27 diff from the 1.6 there and it goes very nice :)
0-100 in about 8,5s (with 316i exhaust system, smaller diameter :o )

My newest mod is the suspension, i fitted -40/-40 HR springs, Sachs shocks. THE BEST UPGRADE since the M42 engine! It is a different car now, looks very nice and the handling got better by 1000% :) Some pics:
Before:
After:

It is even lower now, i took the pic right after fitting it.

And my plans? Fit an Eaton M45 or M62 supercharger and the goal is around 190HP with tons of torque :) (i got inspired by a member on this forum) As far as i know it would be the first E30 318is with a compressor in my country :) Challenge accepted...

Looks excellent. Specifically, which HR springs did you go with? 29964 , 50404, 50406?
