A good friend Bill B. told me about this site and I'm glad he did!
Today is Jan 1 2007. I towed my 318is home on this exact day 5 years ago, and haven't regretted it since. It didn't look like the picture shown, it had been severly neglected. It took over 3 months to bring it back to this condition. Showing only 60k miles, I pulled the head and replaced the profile gasket, got the car running and began working replacing parts left and right. I replaced all the struts and mounts, rotors and pads, refinished the wheels, replaced the fuel pump, blower motor resistor, antenna, SI batteries, tie rods, control arms, and the list goes on. It was a great winter project and now it serves as a runabout when I need transportation. It is also the protector of the '91 ///M5 that resides in the garage, sparing it from the harsh elements of the outside.
It is one of the most dependable cars I've ever owned. Simplicity at it's finest, and a true joy to drive. My wife often wonders why I don't use her '01 E39 when I need to go somewhere, she just doesn't understand. Sometimes, when her car is being worked on, she has to take the 318iS on her 120 mile roundtrip to work and she can't understand why I like it so much! The 318is seems to be connected right to the road...
Hope to be of some help on the forum, thanks for the invitation.
