Crankshaft nose diameter
« on: April 27, 2013, 10:49:56 PM »
Has anyone measured  the nose of the M42/M44 crank with a micrometer i.e. for machining a M47 crank?

Just measured mine and got 1.239in or 31.47mm.  Mind you, this was with a Harbor Freigt micrometer and a very inexperienced hand so your mileage may very.

Thanks to both! I did not pick up on the crank spacer and bolt during my readings. I had around 31.5mm or so, maybe 31.7 with my el cheapo plastic calipers, my good ones having taken and walk.

I was considering an harmonic damper which has an ID of 1.2495" or 31.74mm which may not fit. Dampers need an interference fit and this could be too loose.

I gave some measurements but NOT for the nose of the M47 crank. I gave mine to my machinist and had him match it everything up so I don't have the numbers on that for you. I can give you almost everything else for numbers on the stroker :)

What I posted was actually the thickness the spacer has to be and the stock one. Also the length of the threads after the bolt is cut.

Cheers,
~Ralph

Thanks Ralph. That's how I understand it. I note my response is not clear. I had attempted to respond to two issues, firstly mabeer providing a measurement of the crank nose. The second is colin86325 directing me to your post, which while it did not have the crank measurements I was after, did mention the spacer and bolt issue that I had not picked up on.

I'll make a new thread about harmonic balancer discussion soon.
