mounting an external oil pump
« on: April 21, 2013, 04:20:31 PM »
Has anyone don this? im in the process of doin an all out NA build and im going dry sump with external pump. I was just wondering if anybody has done this and if anyone knows of anyone making brackets to mount the external pump. i was thinking of getting rid of my ps pump and ac compressor and mounting the pump where the compressor once set. any help would be appreciated.

There is lots of dry sump pumps manufacturers so in this case you need all kit: pump and bracket.

I am currently doing this. I have a ARE pan which I purchased through Donald at GT Technics. I can highly recommend contacting him as he can assist with pan and design of the layout, etc.  I initially looked at setting up on the left hand side (your driver's side) of the engine as the outlets from the sump pan point in this direction. However this means relocating the power steering pump and alternator. While this is not hard, as I am removing the air-conditioner compressor, and I am currently looking at mounting it on the right side in place of the compressor. It seems to be the most sensible, particularly due the the orientation of the pump I have. VAC mount their kits on the right.

I will be mounting my engine upright for greater room for headers. I have had some plates laser cut for engine mounts and made a MDF plate to dummy mount the pump to work out a position to align pulleys.

Here are pics of the sump pan:

I am thinking about this position:
