I need help, and advice if anyone got some. I have an 91 318iC with M42 engine.
about a month ago, sometimes, not always, at a stop light, my idle would be erratic and the car would start shaking. The car buckles sometimes as if someone is choking my fuel line. And once in a while, my check engine light would light up for a second or so then turn off and the engine shut off once while I was making a turn. Peake reader read a code FE037, which did not correspond to anything in the 318i table. Happened for about a week. The day I took it in to see if it could get checked out, it ran fine to the shop, then then alternator belt snapped.
Ended up replacing thermostat, water pump, temp sensor to DME and new belts. The car ran fine for about 2 weeks. No complaints, no issues.
Fast forward to last sunday. My temp gauge started rising high, to red, but sometime bounces back. Trying to solve that, looks like a grounding issue in the cluster. Yesterday late at night, I kept on randomly getting the check engine light, but everything ran fine. 3 times last night and 3 times today. Twice today my idle has fluctuate from 500 rpm to 1500. Looked at the hose from the intake manifold to the ICV and it has cracked, taped it up temporally as I went to buy new hoses. On the way back home, the car began to buckle and choke around 3000 rpm again, and as I was going up my apartment's garage, the car buckled more violently and the engine died, twice, within 20 seconds.
I am suspecting that one of my distributor may be going bad, or my ICV, anyone else have any experience in this with their e30? Seems like alot of people on here are got similar issues but I tried their remedies and it is not working.
New spark plugs, oil changed a month ago, less that 500 miles. Got oil, dip stick is at about 3/4 mark. Ill appreciate any suggestions, going to look up more info on M42club and R3vlimited also. Thanks in advance
