Rheo's E36 318i
« on: February 06, 2013, 11:23:13 PM »
So ive been a volkswagen fan for a long time now, but my cousin and many other friends are all E30 and just BMW guys in general. A friend of mine was holding onto a 1992 BMW 318i for about 6 years. sitting outside, under a tarp, just holding on for dear life. He had purchased it from a man who had blown the clutch out of it. My friend purchased it for 1,500$. He tore the whole front end apart and pulled out the motor just to put a new clutch in it. He then set the engine back in the bay and let it sit under said tarp for 6 years. One day he called me and asked me if i wanted the car. straight up, like if you can come and get it, its yours. so i went out with a flatbed and picked up a free car. :)
The car only has 140,000 miles on it but was quite beat up from the weather. all the parts are there to be put back together, she was just tore apart and left. since then, I have pulled the motor back out and been doing a "rebuild" of the engine. Main bearings have all been plastigauged and are within factory spec. cam bearings have been measured as well and are in excellent sape!! So im essentially just replacing all the gaskets and water pump, thermostat, hoses, fuel injectors, and am looking to clean up the engine bay a little bit. I keep getting bugged to do an m50 swap or something but i kinda wanna keep the m42 in it and just make her a super reliable daily so i can resume my vw build. This website has given me a lot of info and helped me out a lot on doing this build. Low and slow, she will look sexy:):)

I'm a bit envious. It's always nice to have a build drop your at your feet for free.
Keep us posted on your progress!
