speaker wiring
« on: December 20, 2006, 05:49:02 PM »
I need some clarification about speaker wiring in the 318is .
1) I had the premium stock cassette deck with the slider . Does this use a common ground for speakers ?
2) I read on other forums that there is an amp in the trunk in front of the antenna ?? I don't seem to have one in my car .
3)do I need to run all new wires to have good sound? PITA

I currently have a sony cd player in the car and going to upgrade to a clarion  745mp . I installed the current cd player but it doesn't have anti-skip and only 45X4 watts. I've installed quite a few stereos but I'm no expert.

Thanks

Slider radio = not premium system by default. You would have had the 2 way speakers and tweeters in the door pods. Our cars are already wired the "right" way unless some genius decided to wire them to work with a common ground. If your current cd-player works this means the car has already been rewired or was never used with a factory amp.

You don't have the amp as we are now certain you don't have the prem. system.

New wires always help. Question is - is it worthy of your time. I have rewired 3 e30s and this time around simply used existing wiring. I am not a big time stereo audiophile

Don't know what to say about your HU. I have the older style Alpine HU with m3 capabilities than blends in Oh So Wonderfully in the e30 :D
