That's a good one - I wonder if it's similar to the e30 writeup here.

I'd be pretty sure you can't use the earlier analog cruise module, like the one from an e30...maybe the M50 setup would bolt right on?

I'd figure the only significant difference is the speedo output (likely digital instead of analog), but that makes for a completely different system.

Here's everything that's in the kit P/N, "65 71 9 401 631":
Part number   Name                                                   Quantity
01 29 0 017 969   Stick-on label   EBA-AUFKL. GELB           1
01 29 9 787 928   Installation instructions   TEMPOMAT E36   1
07 11 9 901 299   Hex head screw   ST4,8X16-ZNS3           2
07 11 9 916 945   Hex head screw   ST4,8X16-C-Z1           2
13 54 1 747 519   Bearing accelator bowden cable          1
51 11 1 908 077   Expanding rivet                          1
61 13 1 367 599   Cable strap   L=200MM/B=3,6MM          5

63 25 9 128 043   Hex nut   M5                                   4
65 71 1 378 315   Cruise control actuator                1
65 71 1 387 003   Actuator supporting plate             1
65 71 1 387 625   Control unit f cruise control           1
65 71 8 353 068   Bracket f Bowden cable               1
65 71 8 366 496   Actuator supporting plate            1
65 71 9 401 624   Wiring set                                 1

It appears everything for the E36 (except the bowden cable) is the same. I used the VIN off an E36/M44 sitting in a local yard and brought up the cruise control components. I looked at several components and it appears they apply to several, if not all E36 vehicles.

As an example, here's the application list for a control unit (65 71 8 375 498):
Usage - E36
316g (M43)
316i (M43)
316i 1.6 (M43)
316i 1.9 (M43)
318i (M43)
318i (M42)
318i (M44)
318is (M42)
318is (M44)
318ti (M42)
318ti (M44)
320i (M50)
320i (M52)
323i (M52)
323ti (M52)
325i (M50)
325is (M50)
328i (M52)
M3 (S50)
M3 3.2 (S50)
M3 3.2 (S52)

BMW of Atlanta lists the CC kit @ ~$330. If you had to source everything from a junkyard, I don't see where it would be that much less expensive. In your case, I believe the control unit has to be from an E36 w/M42 as they are coded. (I'm not real clear on the part numbers for the control units. When I pull up VINs for different E36s I may get a different part number for the control unit, yet the application list includes almost all e36/engine combinations.)

Play around with these two links and I believe you will be able to see exactly what you need. It sounds like you'll be blazing a new trail for E36/M42.

I'm thinking about scavanging and seeing what I can find. Most of the really small parts they don't even pay attention to. Or. You can pocket most stuff. I'm going to go to pull apart friday. Need to get parts for this shitty nissan sentra (work car). But ill see what I can find, and if they have any BMWs on yard
