How many anciliaries are too many?

Rebuilding an M42 that I took out in parts, I was wandering how many of the engine accessories (alternator, intake, exhaust manifold) can be mounted off car and still allow an easy sliding in the engine bay, with tranny on.

Just went through this myself. You can install almost everything on it and still get it in easily. I would recommend leaving the driver's side (for left-hand-drive cars) engine mount arm off since it can easily catch on things, but everything else is totally fine. You can have the heater core hoses on or off...I usually leave them off since it looks like they can get pinched by the tranny tunnel, and it is sort of a tight fit to get everything in through there. The M42 is super easy to swap in/out with the transmission attached!

everything. I just swapped in a full engine with all accessories, tranny, mounts, etc by myself.
would have been much easier with a second person helping to maneuver the engine, but still wasn't too difficult solo...getting all the engine/tranny mounts into the holes is the hardest part I'd say.
