*SOLD* FS: E30 M42 turbo package $900 great deal
« on: December 19, 2012, 01:19:52 PM »
UPDATE: I have a strong lead for the car including the turbo, so this may be gone soon.

UPDATE2:  I found an oil leak above the lower oil pan today and can not in good conscience sell the car in this condition because it's possible I have a cracked block or something based on what I'm seeing..  so the turbo bits are still available while I assess doing an engine rebuild.  The local buyer is still strongly interested - we agreed to get back in touch after the engine work's completed.  I need to decide whether to take this kit off the market or continue with the plan to put the engine back to stock

ADDED SOME PICS AND VIDEO

Also posted on m42club and e30tech

I have a troubleshooting thread for my 91 318is turbo setup over on e30tech. Since I have 3 other E30s I don't have the patience to keep working on this project, so I've decided to take the car back to stock condition and probably sell it.

I am selling the whole turbo package including the BEGI, intercooler, piping, BOV, M42 AFM with additional pigtail, turbo and mani, custom made down pipe and exhaust including cat and muffler for $900. I will make arrangements with the buyer on the shipping, which is probably about $100 in the continental US. If you have done any research at all you know this is a VERY good deal.

A bit of history: I bought this car last summer as a project car without an exhaust system. There was already a BEGI RRFPR, intercooler, BOV, Greddy TD04H-15G turbo and cut down turbo mani on the car when I bought it. Here's the new stuff I've added or bought since then, all with less than 200 miles on it or never used:

- M42 oil pan with turbo oil return tap in proper location

- brand new intercooler pipe kit with high quality clamps (never used)

- custom 2.5" 3 piece exhaust setup including hand welded down pipe with brand new magnaflow cat and muffler. the guy that did the work does show and collector cars and is highly sought after. Alot of pro labor went into this exhaust, which uses all factory hardware and mount points. it fits perfectly.

- brand new CHRA assembly for the Greddy TD04H-15G

- Kinugawa wastegate actuator with several springs from 0.5 to 1.5 bar (never used)

- 3 gauge ashtray area cluster pod (parker performance vinyl covered 3 hole bracket, VDO 15 psi boost, VDO oil pressure, Innovate G5 AFR

I am selling the whole package including the BEGI, intercooler, M42 AFM with additional pigtail, turbo and mani for $900. I will make arrangements with the buyer on the shipping, which is probably about $100 in the continental US.

Will be posting pics shortly. Please PM with offer. More info on the turbo setup at E30tech, 2 threads:

Ever solve the tuning issues seen here?

Wish you were parting the kit, I'm interested in the Begi.

yeah tuning is stable car runs slightly lean off throttle and idle, a bit rich on throttle and on boost.  car makes about 6 psi per the boost gauge, pulls great.  all cooling issues resolved too.  the only nagging issue was around the oil return line.  details are in the threads posted above.

EDIT/UPDATE:  I have found what I believe to be a crack in the block.  Engine's being pulled and rebuilt.  more details here on e30tech.  doesn't affect any of the turbo stuff.

I was about to install the ostrich but have parked the car for now.  again, reason I'm selling is I have too many projects going on.  I plan to sell 2 of my 4 E30s in the next couple of months, along with these turbo bits.

As soon as I've pulled the parts off the car I'll post additional pics.  Most of the parts have < 200 miles on them (CHRA, new downpipe, cat, muffler, exhaust pipes and hardware, gauge setup etc), the rest appear to be in good shape.

I really don't want to part things out, but I am willing to sell off the full turbo exhaust system separate from the rest of the turbo bits.   I will not part out beyond that.  The price I'm asking for all this stuff is more than fair, and definitely less than what I've got into the car by a long shot.

I have no issues with your price, it's great! I just Have a DASC already so I don't need a turbo. If I had cash I'd buy a whole project car since I'm in the process of renting a shop so I have room. I'd even consider buying this kit to put on another car I'd buy down the road. I have to see what things look like AFTER I get into a facility to store and work on stuff, and also to see how my funds look. My lease contract at home is a real strict deal and no provision for any car work at ALL. If you still have this next month we may talk.

Thanks for your post!  Yeah I'm biased but I think the price is a deal and a half.

I have someone local who's strongly interested in the car as-is with the turbo setup.   I'll of course update the thread if the car is sold.

There's been fairly good interest in the setup/kit but no closed deals.  Seems like there are 2 types of folks out there:
- want to take the plunge but just don't have the funds (obviously I can't do anything about that)

- seriously interested but want to go straight to stage 2+ setups.

not sure what to tell these guys other than to point out things like engine management, head gaskets etc are really up to them.  the kit does come with a brand new kinugawa wastegate actuator with multiple springs..  nothing stopping someone from getting an MS setup.  If you're really serious about stage2+ then this probably isn't the way to go, since that probably means buying a much more expensive turbo and possibly a different manifold too, maybe larger exhaust..

my conclusion here: this is probably best for someone with "stage 1" goals.
