washer reservoir NLA?
« on: October 18, 2012, 03:17:51 PM »
I'm trying to order a new washer reservoir for my 318iS and the part number  61 66 1 370 789 has been superceded with 61 66 1 370 788 from the 325i.

The difference is that the 61 66 1 370 788 piece has an extra hole in the tank for the fluid level sender.  Obviously this will cause a leak unless plugged.  Has anybody dealt with this issue before?

I suppose I can get a rubber stopper to plug the hole, but I was hoping for something that is less ugly.

I did, just left the sender in, unplugged of course.

I'd buy a new bung for the pump as well.  When I swapped mine I'm not sure if the 325i was a universal pump, but it leaked when I swapped it.  A little RTV has held since then, but I'd prefer the OEM solution.

Hi Dave, I guess you bought a used 788 tank that came with the sender?
My new one did not come with a sender.

I'm kind of pissed that the correct part for our cars is superceded and I will have to rig up something with a stopper.

There's a '91 318i at one of the yards I go to occasionally. It has what appears to be a fairly new reservoir and it's full of wiper fluid, so I know it doesn't leak. I can grab it for you the next time I'm there.

Thank you Keflaman!  That's very kind.  I'm going to see if I can rig this tank to work but if not, I'll give you a shout to grab that tank.

Chers,
Colin

No problem. I was up there last week getting some body parts for a member on R3V and there's some other items he wants, so I'll be going up there in a week or two. I'll grab it regardless and if you don't need it I'm sure someone will.
