Sorry for the PM-novel... I hope some of it was helpful.  It's difficult to describe to someone who doesn't do digital design or programmable logic design where to start and as I said, it may be better to stick with the microcontroller for the senior project grade and then get the CPLD going for a product.

If you want to look into it more, Xilinx sells development kits that have the CPLD (or FPGA) already mouted on a board and headers for programming, a programming cable, and the software to do everything you need.

english? :D

I have no idea what you two are talking about - but sounds like it's a start to a very good thing for the 318is owners.

I always thought it was " the business majors find a way to rip the engineers off" :D

Well shit, I see why people do not like to prototype with uC's.  When you fry one it can be costly, at least when using one that's waaay overkill, as in my case.  There is a $50 mistake I just learned from!

The hell with it.  I am just gonna get a E/EEPROM memory chip, burn the data into it, and just take inputs & spit out my 'tuned' outputs.  That way if I mess up it costs me like $3.  Son of a bitch, I was trying to save $$$ for my next car insurance bill!  If only I had realized how overcomplicated I was making this sooner!

Are you planning on ditching the microcontroller and going with only EEPROM?  What EEPROM?

If you want, I can review your design.  I can give you tips on how to make it more reliable, cheaper, easier, less prome to burning.

I already see the possibilities - Xilinx XCS05XL FPGA - has enough RAM inside it to do the look up table.  $8.92 through digikey.  You can reprogram it thousands of times.
