Hey guys this is my first post,  So i hope this is the right section for it. I was wondering if the m42 engine takes 4x #19lbs fuel injectors?, just like mustang. if so they are the same ones correct?

The m42 stockers are 20.5# units.  There was a common misconception a while back that they were 14.4# units (I was one of the wrong folks lol).  Some people say they are rated at 17.4#, but that is on a standard 2.5BAR fuel system.  On the M42's 3BAR system they are 20.5#.

i believe they could be made to work, but by bmwmans knowledge, that would simply be a downgrade to a more inferior brand and lower output.. that sort of mod is usually for the 6 cylinder m20 engine in the 325s

The ford mustang injectors are made by bosch like BMW. The Ford rating is at a lower system pressure, I think its like 2.5bar so If you convert there flow rate to a higher pressure the flow rates are close. You would need some way of calibrating the new injectors to the BMW control module like a piggy back computer or just plug them in and see what happens. I have heard of some computers learning enough to compensate for some slightly larger injectors.

D'OH!  I missed the whole question lol.

Yes, prettymuch any injector will fit.  The E30 M42 used standard size injectors.  The E36 m42 used special shorter ones that need little adapters to use other units.

Anyway, if you ran the Mustang 19.1# ones it would end up being 22.9# on our fuel system. The ECU could adjust to this.  The M42 runs a little lean at full-throttle and higher RPM's.  Wanna take one for the team and try this out lol?  Be SURE to unplug your battery before doing this...both to avoid sparks when working with the fuel system and to reset the ECU.  Usually you can get away with all sorts of stuff by resetting it!

There are 2 types of Mustang units...some with 1 pintle, and some with 4 micro-pintles.  The 4-pintle ones are more desirable due to their supposed better atomization.  Anyway, good luck!

I'm interested in doing my injectors. How do you think my m42 would respond to some 21lbs from a mustang?
... no more m42

I didn't have an afr gauge, but im pretty sure my car ran really rich with the 19's. I hardly passed emissions on the second try do to hydrocarbons. I cant wait to see what the 24's do!!!
