That is one really good GT car. I would love to have a 200 HP version of that engine in an E30. The article mentions a "kit". There are three factory cars and a bunch of "privateers" I wonder if they get all the good stuff and what ungodly figure the kit must cost.
That power (275) from a 2 liter is a 3 to 4 hour motor.
I love the way the cage ties into the strut towers.

the road going version is a pure disapointement. I don't remember the exact figures but it is nothing compared to the powers a similar Honda engine of the same size and displacement will do. Anyway the GT version seems nice. 275 hp is not that much though, they made more then that with the S42.

The choices in a racing series are determined by the rules. Displacement, weight, suspension and engine mods are all set by the rules.
You can be sure that in such a competitive and prestigious series that BMW pushed it to the limit along with the other manufacturers. I doubt that they "left money on the table". You could surely get more power out of a normally aspirated 2.0 liter if that were the only limit but not with a production block, head, and possibly intake restriction to further equalize the cars. As noted in the article, there may be further weight adjustments of up to 80 pounds as the series progresses. Win and get added weight for the next race.

I got curious and checked the rules.
Stock block, head, and a spec ECU.
Here's the whole deal. 275 looks pretty good with cams, a port and polish, and 11:1 compression.

You have to run 4 consecutive 50 KM races on the same engine without a rebuild. Win and you get an extra 40KG. 9th on back gets -20KG.

Yeah, I wasn't so much complaining about the GT version then the street version where there is no such rules. The 2 liter in stock form is not very impressive. But from what you tell me, the competition one is a nice piece of engineering.
