im not sure where to put this so i posted it in my new guy thread. if im wrong, im sorry. but, i need help with thtis eitherway. i drive a 91 318i sedan. heres my problem:
i drove my beemer home from work and decided to stop by my new job on the way. so, i go in to my new job and come out about 10 minutes later. i put the key in and everything works like normal with the exception of not being able to hear the fuel pump prime. i didnt really think much of it so i went to twist the key to crank her. nothing happened. radio and lights still work but ,absolutely nothing happens when you turn the key to "start" no cranking, no fuel. seeing is how everything else worked, thats why i checked the ignition switch. figured maybe it lost a contact on the inside or something( stranger things have happened).
ignition switch works fine, none of the fuses are blown and none of the relays are torched.
the only thing that makes any sense to me right now is that right before i pulled into the parking lot, my speakers started acting wierd. kind of like dimming out and coming back to normal. does the speaker harness run near any of the wiring for the fuel system, battery, anything having to do with the functional running fo the car?
btw: the car ran perfectley before this.
thanks in advance for the help.

in my experiance, 100% of the time i've encountered this problem it has been the starter.  loctae the starter, tap it with a hammer. that should free up the brissles and give you another start or two, but you'll probably need to replace it...

Have you tried to jump start the car? Weak battery?

if jumped the starter, it works fine. not to mention that its only 3 months old. (i forgot to put that in there) the battery has been tested good. and i also tried to jump start the car. everyone is telling me to look at the stater, i dont get it, what would the starter have anything to do with the fuel pumps initial priming?

From my experience, the fuel pump does not prime all the time, I notice mine will not prime unless I've drivin the car for at least 10 to 15minutes and if it sits for around the same time before I start it again.

Let me see if I understand you here. You hooked your jumpers to the starter and it worked (cranked the motor).

and i also tried to jump start the car.

Does this mean that you hooked the jumpers to the battery post and it would or would not crank or it cranked and would not fire?

okay, i used a jumper wire on the starter and it spun, but it wasnt spinning the motor, just the starter itself. like the pull out circut wasnt energized because of the key not being on at the time.
part 2, yes, i hooked jumper cables up to the car and the same thing happened, or nothing happened as i should say. so, trying to jump start the car resulted in no change and using a jumper wire on the starter made the starter spin but not engane the motor/ flywheel.
