While this is not exactly a "tool", it could be considered one in diagnosis, so I will list it as being available for rent.
I have a #175 ECU w/ stock chip for those who need a spare ECU to swap/test, FYI this is from a E30 91 318i.

Going to do a water pump and thermostat r&r (along with new hoses). Does anybody have the fan pulley holder and fan clutch tool to rent/borrow? I can't justify paying $80 for 2 tools I'll need once at the moment.

make sure your belt is tight, you can put a crescent wrench on it and hit it with a hammer

I have a custom front hub puller, a camshaft alignment kit (includes cam lock, flywheel pin, and manual chain tensioner), for you guys with aftermarket flywheels I have a very nice snap-on tdc indicator that you screw into your spark plug hole, a Bilstein spanner wrench for you sport or hd front shocks.

Is the cam tool really necessary? Ive run across many special tools for other cars and found very few you actually have to use. I dont see the reason for the cam tool. Ive been into DSM's for quite a while now and they are interference engines just like the BMW. The cams will only turn a little bit, usually its the exhaust cam. Is there something to watch out for with the M42?

anyone from montreal/quebec area i could borrow/rent a camshaft holding tool with pin?? going to do the timing chain + guides and water pump along with front crank seal (any other special tools recomended for this job???)

You can use two crescent wrenches and a vice grip. Place the wrenches on each cam so that they intersect. clamp the wrenches together with the vice grip. You won't be able to close the hood while it's like this.

Thats what I was lookin for. In my DSM you could do something similiar by putting wrenches on the cam gear bolts and then zip strapping them together. It still allowed slight movement in either direction for adjustment when putting the belt back on.

Rear subframe bushing removal tool:

Rental fee $50 per week (7 days) plus shipping. Another $150 deposit that will be returned minus shipping cost. $25 for every week after. Will ship either FedEx or UPS and supply tracking. Return must be the same. Will include instructions. Day 1 starts the day after the part is received. Must be shipped on the eighth. Only do Paypal.

Part is from SIRtools, #3026. It also does e36, e28, e23, e34 and e32.

This beats buying the same $400 tool for a a hard job that only is done every so many years.

It will be 1st come, 1st serve and will have a queue and keep everyone updated along the way.

I also have the FCAB bushing tools for those interested, a 10 min job for each side with it. Will do another post for it.

Hi,
I am replacing a profile gasket and need the tools to R/R the head. I think I especially need the timing chain tensioning tool. I am in Sarasota area if anyone can help.
